ఒక మహారాజుగార్మి ఒక కోతితో ఎక్కువ చనువు ఏర్పడింది. ఆయన దానితోనే ఎక్కువ కాలక్షేపము చేస్తుండేవారు. రాజుగారంటే దానికి కూడా 'ఎక్కువ ప్రేమ. ఆయనకు ఏహాని కలుగకుండా కంటికి రెప్పలాగ కాపాడుతుండేది. దాని అభిమానానికి మెచ్చి రాజుగారు దానికొ ఖడ్గం బహుమానంగా యిచ్చి దానినే తన అంగరక్షకునిగా నియమించుకున్నారు.

ఒకరోజున రాజుగారు గాఢంగా నిద్రపోతున్నారు. ఇంతలో హఠాత్తుగా ఎక్కడినుండి వచ్చిందో ఒక కందిరీగ రాజుగారి ముఖంచుట్టూ తిరుగుతూ. “రుమ్‌ర్సుమ్‌! అని ధ్వని చేయడం మొదలుపెట్టింది. కోతి దాన్ని చూచి చేతితో అదిలించింది. అదిపోయినట్టే పోయి మళ్ళీవచ్చి గోల చేయసాగింది. కోతి తిరిగి దాన్ని తన జేబురుమాలుతో బయటికి తోలివేసింది.
