#పాణ్యం మండలం సుబ్బరాయుడు కొత్తూరు భిన్నమైన ఆచారాన్ని పాటిస్తోంది. #ఆదివారం అందరికీ సెలవు. ఆ పల్లెకూ సెలవే. కానీ మిగిలినవారికంటే కాస్త ఎక్కువ సెలవు. ఆదివారం మాంసాహారం ముట్టకపోవడం, అంత్యక్రియలు నిర్వహించకపోవడం ఈ పల్లెలో అనాదిగా వస్తున్న ఆచారం. #మిగిలిన రోజుల్లో మాంసాహారం తినాలన్నా.. ఆ ఊరిలో దొరకదు. ఆరు కిలోమీటర్లు వెళ్లి తెచ్చుకోవాల్సిందే. ఆసక్తి కలిగించే ఈ ఆచారం వెనుక సుబ్రహ్మణ్య స్వామి ఆలయ స్థల పురాణ నేపథ్యం ఉంది.

 

#ఏమిటా కథ..?*

#500 ఏళ్ళ క్రితం కొత్తూరు గ్రామానికి చెందిన బీరం చెన్నారెడ్డి అనే రైతు తీవ్ర ఆర్థిక ఇబ్బందులు ఎదుర్కొన్నాడు. గట్టెక్కే మార్గం చూపాలని ఓ బ్రాహ్మణుడిని ఆశ్రయిం చాడు. #మాఘ శుద్ధ షష్ఠి రోజున పొలం దున్నితే కష్టాలు తొలగుతాయని బ్రాహ్మణుడు సూచించాడు. దీంతో చెన్నారెడ్డి కాడెద్దులను నాగలికి కట్టి పొలం దున్నడం ప్రారంభిస్తాడు. ఆ సమయంలో నాగలికి ఉన్నట్లుండి భూమిలో ఏదో అడ్డుతగులుతుంది. ఆ క్షణంలోనే ఆకాశంలో 12 తలల నాగుపాము రూపం ప్రత్యక్షమౌతుంది. ఆ తేజస్సుకు రైతు కంటిచూపు కోల్పోతాడు.

కాసేపటి చుట్టు పక్కల రైతులు వచ్చి నాగలిని వెనక్కులాగి చూస్తారు. అక్కడ 12 శిరస్సుల నాగేంద్రుడి విగ్రహం బయట పడుతుంది. ఒక బాలుడు ప్రత్యక్షమై తాను సుబ్బరాయుడినని(సుబ్రహ్మణ్యేశ్వస్వామి), మూడు రోజుల పాటు తనకు క్షీరాభిషేకం చేస్తే చెన్నారెడ్డికి చూపు వస్తుందని చెబుతాడు. #అలా పూజలు చేయగానే చెన్నారెడ్డికి కంటిచూపు వస్తుంది. దీంతో సుబ్రహ్మణ్యేశ్వర స్వామికి గుడి కట్టాలని గ్రామస్థులు నిర్ణయించుకుంటారు. స్వామివారిని వేడుకుంటారు. ‘రాత్రి రోకలిపోటు తరువాత మొద లుపెట్టి.. తెల్లవారు జామున కోడి కూతకు ముందే గుడి నిర్మాణం పూర్తి చేయాలి’ అని స్వామి సెలవిస్తాడు. లేదంటే ఏడుగురు బలి అవుతారని హెచ్చరి స్తాడు. స్వామివారి స్వయంభు విగ్రహాన్ని నేలపైనే పెట్టి గుడి నిర్మాణం ప్రారంభిస్తారు. కోడి కూతలోగా ప్రహరీ మాత్రమే పూర్తవుతుంది. పైకప్పులేని ఆలయం సిద్ధమౌతుంది. అప్పటిదాకా ఆ గ్రామం పేరు కొత్తూరు కాగా.. స్వామి వెలసిన తరువాత సుబ్బరాయుడు కొత్తూరుగా మారింది. ఇదీ స్థల పురాణం.

#ఆదివారం సెలవెందుకు..?*

#సుబ్రహ్మణ్య స్వామికి ప్రీతిపాత్రమైన రోజు ఆదివారం. ఎస్‌ కొత్తూరు గ్రామానికి ప్రతి ఆదివారం ఆంధ్రప్రదేశ్‌, తెలంగాణ, తమిళనాడు రాష్ట్రాల నుంచి వేలాదిగా భక్తులు తరలి వస్తారు. కేవలం ఆదివారం రోజే 6 నుంచి 8 వేల మంది భక్తులు స్వామిని సందర్శిస్తారు. ఆ ఒక్కరోజే సుమారు మూడు వందల అభిషేకాలు జరుగుతాయి. స్వామిని పూజిస్తే కోరిన కోర్కెలు నెరవేరుతాయని భక్తుల విశ్వాసం. తమను చల్లాగా చూస్తున్న స్వామి కోసం ఆదివారం ఆచారాన్ని ఆలయం నిర్మించిన సమయంలోనే ప్రారంభించారు గ్రామస్థులు. #ఆదివారం వస్తే మాంసాహారం వండరు, తినరు. గ్రామంలో మాంసాహార దుకాణాలు లేవు. మామూలు రోజుల్లో కావాలన్నా.. గ్రామానికి 6 కిలోమీటర్ల దూరంలో ఉన్న నందివర్గం వెళ్లి తెచ్చుకోవాల్సిందే. ఇక పండుగ మరుసటి రోజున మాంసాహారంతో కర్రిపండుగ నిర్వహించడం సాధారణం. ఆ పండుగ ఆదివారం వస్తే.. సోమవారానికి వాయిదా పడుతుంది.

#ఆ మూడు మాసాల్లోనూ అంతే..*
ఏడాది పొడవునా ఆదివారాలతోపాటు కార్తీకం, మాఘం, శ్రావణ మాసాల్లో గ్రామస్థులు మాంసాహారం ముట్టరు. ఈ కట్టుబాటును ఎవ్వరూ మీరింది లేదు. ఆదివారాలతో కలిపి ఇలా ఏడాదిలో సుమారు నాలుగు నెలల పాటు మాంసా హారానికి దూరంగా ఉంటూ గ్రామస్థులు స్వామిపై తమకున్న భక్తిని చాటుకుం టున్నారు. ప్రతి ఆదివారం వేలాదిగా వచ్చే భక్తులకు దేవస్థానం ఆధ్వర్యంలో అన్నదానం నిర్వహిస్తున్నారు.

#అంత్యక్రియలకూ సెలవే….*

కొత్తూరులో 220 కుటుంబాలు ఉన్నాయి. జనాభా సుమారు 900. ఆదివారం గ్రామస్థుల్లో ఎవరైనా చనిపోతే అంత్యక్రియలు నిర్వహించరు. మరుసటిరోజు వరకూ మృత దేహాన్ని ఇంటివద్దే ఉంచుతారు.సోమవారం అంత్యక్రియలు నిర్వహి బస్తారు. ఇందుకూ స్వామిపై ఉన్న అపార మైన భక్తే కారణం.

 

గ్రామానికి ఆదివారం వివిధ ప్రాంతాల నుంచి వేలాది మంది భక్తులు వస్తారు. ఆలయం చుట్టూ ప్రదక్షిణలు చేస్తారు. అలాంటి పవిత్రమైన రోజున మృతదేహాన్ని తీసుకువెళితే భక్తులకు అసౌకర్యం కలుగుతుందని గ్రామస్థులు ఈ కఠిన నిర్ణయం తీసుకున్నారు.

 

మృతదేహంతో వెళితే భక్తులకు అంటు తగులుతుందని తమకు తామే కట్టడి చేసుకున్నారు.

#What is the story..? *
#500 years ago, a farmer named Beeram Chenna Reddy from Kothuru village faced severe financial problems. A Brahmin asked to show him the way out. #Brahmin suggested that plowing the field on the day of Magha Shuddha Shasthi will remove all the difficulties. With this, Chenna Reddy will tie the oxen to a plow and start plowing the fields. At that time, something is blocking the ground like the plow. In that moment a 12 headed cobra will appear in the sky. The farmer loses sight to the brightness.
#After some time, the farmers around the neighborhood will come and plow and look back. There 12 heads of Nagendra statue will be revealed. A boy appears and says that he is Subbarayu (Subramanyeswamy), for three days, Chennareddy will get sight if he is anointed with milk. Chennareddy will get eyesight as soon as he performs rituals like that. Villagers decided to build a temple for Subramanyeshwara Swamy with this. Praise the lord. Startin’ after a night of blizzard.. Swamy says that the construction of the temple has to be completed before the white people start eating Jamuna chicken. Otherwise he will warn that seven people will be killed. The construction of the temple will be started by placing the Swami’s own statue on the ground. Only Prahari will be completed in the hen’s coop. Roofless temple in progress. Till then, the name of that village is Kothuru.. Subbaraidu has changed to Kothuru after Swamy’s departure. This is the legend of the place.
#Why is Sunday a holiday..? *
#Sunday is the day that is favourable to Subrahmanya Swamy. Thousands of devotees from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu come to S Kothuru village every Sunday. Only on Sunday 6 to 8 thousand devotees will visit Swamy. About three hundred abhishekas will happen on that single day. Devotees believe that if Swamy is worshipped, the desires will be fulfilled. The villagers started the Sunday ritual at the time when the temple was built for the Swami who is taking care of them. #If Sunday comes, you will not cook or eat meat. No butcher shops in the village. Even on a normal day.. Nandivargam which is 6 kilometers away from the village has to go and get it. It is normal to organize curry festival with meat on the next day of the festival. If the festival comes on a Sunday.. It will be postponed to Monday.

Along with Sundays, villagers will not eat meat during Kartikam, Magham and Sravana months throughout the year. No one can break this commitment. Including Sundays, villagers are expressing their devotion towards Swami by staying away from meat for about four months in a year. Food donation is being conducted under the guidance of Devasthanam for the devotees who come in thousands every Sunday.
Off to #funeral…. *
There are 220 families in Kothur. The population is about 900. Funeral will not be held if anyone dies in the villagers on Sunday. The dead body will be kept at home till the next day. Funeral will be held on Monday. The reason for this is the huge devotee on Swamy. Thousands of devotees come to the village on Sunday. Doing a walk around the temple. The villagers took this tough decision as it would make the devotees uncomfortable if the dead body was taken on such a holy day. They have tied themselves up thinking that if they go with the dead body, devotees will get infected.
