Expats to receive free COVID vaccines

The Ministry of Health is working on identifying ways to distribute doses of the Pfizer vaccine and other corona vaccines to more than one segment after it arrives at the end of this year and in the first quarter of 2021.

The sources ruled out imposing fees on expats to receive Corona vaccines, if they are available according to the initial agreements with the companies producing them, noting that the ministry takes into account Law No. 8 of 1969 on health precautions to prevent communicable diseases and its recent amendments, pointing out that the next meetings of the ministry officials will set priority for the segments that will receive the vaccines and where to give them, according to prior dates through the automated system.

The targeted segments and Kuwaitis have priority in receiving Corona vaccinations before expats. Especially the elderly people who are at risk, people with special needs, medical staff, nursing staff and the health workers will be the first to receive vaccines before others.

Initial Agreements

There has been an initial agreement to import one million doses of Pfizer vaccine, 1.7 million doses of Moderna and 3 million doses of Oxford-astrazeneca vaccines at the rate of 2 doses per person.

The sources further stated that 5.7 million doses of Corona vaccines will be imported if they are globally approved which is sufficient for about 2.8 million people report Al Qabas. Currently the vaccines are not recommended for those who are 18 years and below as studies have shown that coronavirus is a greater
risk for adults than children and teens.

The ministry coordinates periodically with the World Health Organization, the US Food and Drug Administration, the European Medicines Agency, EMA, and the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (GAVI), to monitor any official announcements about the approval of any vaccine from those
authorities.

Six preventive steps
1- Avoid traveling during this period, especially those who have respiratory illness.

2- Follow preventive instructions regarding coughing and sneezing.

3- Don’t touch the nose, mouth and eyes after shaking hands or after touching any potentially contaminated surfaces.

4- Avoid kissing and shaking hands when greeting, to prevent transmission by droplets.

5- Not to organize or participate in social events in offices and homes.

6- Follow the health instructions issued by the health authorities.
