Adoption of Jammu & Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989 Approved
- The move will help establish all the three tiers of grassroots level democracy in J&K for the first time since independence.
- The three tier Panchayati Raj institution system which was not available before the abolition of Article 370 will now be applicable in the Union Territory.
- Will empower people in the UT to elect their representatives and manage their own local bodies.
- Will enable early local body election across the three-tiers in the UT.
