🚩Ashwatthama was Dronacharya’s son. Dronacharya took the command of the Kaurava army after Bheeshma was defeated by Arjuna. Dronacharya proved to be too tough to be defeated. Shri Krishna planned to deceive Dronacharya.

🚩He called Bheema and asked him to kill an elephant named Ashwatthama (coincided with the name of Dronacharya’s son). Shri Krishna further asked Bheema to loudly proclaim the death by mentioning the name ‘Ashwatthama’. Bheema acted as per Krishna’s instructions.

🚩When Dronacharya heard about Ashwatthama’s death, he was dejected. He decided to confirm it from Yudhishthira as he would never lie. Yudhishthira was in a dilemma. If he happened to tell the truth, he would be defeated by the Kauravas under the guidance of Dronacharya.

🚩 If he lied, he would no longer be known as Dharmaraj. Shri Krishna sensed Yudhishthira’s predicament and advised him to tell Dronaacharya that Ashwatthama is indeed killed, but I don’t know if he is a human (Dronacharya’s son) or an animal (elephant named Ashwatthama).

🚩When Dronacharya confronted Yudhishthira & asked if Ashwatthama was dead, Yudhishthira replied that Ashwatthama is definitely dead. Shri Krishna then interrupted by blowing His conch loudly. Dronacharya as a result, could only hear the first part regarding Ashwatthama’s death.

🚩He couldn’t hear the latter part. Dronacharya was convinced that his son Ashwatthama was killed. Dronacharya lost the will to fight & he gave up all his weapons and arms. He went into a meditative state in his chariot. Dristadyumna entered his chariot & killed Dronacharya.
