They belong to an exclusive club of people with $100 billion or more in net worth

TOP 10 SUPER-BILLIONAIRES: Forbes lists 2,755 billionaires around the world. But only 10 people belong to an even rarer club — the “super billionaires” — with $100 billion or more in net worth. Many of them are tech people, with a big chunk of their wealth anchored on companies they helped start and grow to become global players. This latest list is according to Bloomberg Billionaires Index, updated as of the January 19, 2022 (except Elon Musk, updated as of February 4, 2022).

10. LARRY ELLISON. Age: 77. Net worth: $107 billion. The Chairman and Chief Technology Officer of Oracle lives in Hawaii. He owns a 40% stake in Oracle, valued at $71.3 billion. Other assets include Tesla equity and cash.

9. STEVE BALMER. Age: 75. Net worth: $111 billion. The former Microsoft CEO (2000 to 2014) owns 4% of the software giant, worth about $101 billion. He owns the Los Angeles Clippers, and also has about $5.03 billion in cash.

8. WARREN BUFFET: Age: 91. Net worth: $117 billion. As CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, Buffett is the most famous living investor and owns 16% of the company, valued at $115 billion. He also has an estimated $1.13 billion cash.

7. SERGEY BRIN: Age: 48. Net worth: $119 billion. He owns 6% of Alphabet, the parent company of Google. He, along with Larry Page, founded the company in 1998, and served as co-president alongside Page until Eric Schmidt took over as CEO in 2001. After Alphabet was founded in 2015, Brin took the helm as the president. In 2019, Brin stepped down, as Sundar Pichai, the current CEO, took over.

6. MARK ZUCKERBERG: Age: 37. Net worth: $124 billion. In 2004, he developed Facebook while attending Harvard alongside fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The company has been renamed Meta. He has a 13% stake in the company, worth about $115 billion. Zuckerberg remains the CEO and chairman of Meta, with 2.9 billion monthly active users as of 2021 (Q3).

5. LARRY PAGE: Age: 48. Net worth: $124 billion. His wealth, like Zuckerberg, started in a college dorm room. While attending Stanford in 1995, Page and Sergey Brin came up with the idea of boosting data extraction on the Internet, created a new search engine, called “Backrub,” named after its ability to analyze “backing links.” They founded Google in 1998, of which he owns 6%, valued at $107 billion. He also has an estimated $14.4 billion in cash.

4. BILL GATES: Age: 66. Net worth: $133 billion. He famously dropped out of Harvard during his junior year in 1975 to work alongside his childhood friend Paul Allen and co-founded Microsoft. Gates today has a 1.3% stake in the company but has other assets such as Cascade Investment LLC and an estimated $56.5 billion cash.

3. BERNARD ARNAULT: Age: 72. Net worth: $164 billion. Arnault is the only non-American on the top 10 super-billionaires list. The Paris-based billionaire owns 97.5% of Christian Dior, valued at $137 billion) and has other stakes — in Moelis & Co, an undisclosed stake in Hermès, and an estimated $11.2 billion in cash.

2. JEFF BEZOS: Age: 58. Net worth: $187 billion. He founded Amazon in 1994 in a garage to sell books online, after he quit his job. He pitched the idea to his former boss at fund company D.E. Shaw, who ignored it. Today, the Amazon founder has a 10% stake in the company, worth about $162 billion. During the pandemic, Amazon’s share price went through the roof as demand jumped for online shopping. Bezos’ other assets include Blue Origin, The Washington Post.
