Plans for return of domestic workers, iiQ8, Kuwait Plans to bring back domestic workers
The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers has addressed the General Administration of Civil Aviation to develop an urgent and clear plan and a timetable for the return of domestic workers within a week.
The concerned authorities have begun to coordinate with each other on mechanism for the return of stranded domestic workers outside the country who have valid residence permit who are estimated around 10,000
The sources stated that their demand was to open skies for countries (India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri lanka and Indonesia) who have been prohibited to enter directly and bring in domestic workers “Article 20”.
The sources affirmed that the General Administration of Civil Aviation has finalized the preparations in coordination with the local airlines (Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways) that will ensure the transportation of stranded domestic workers from abroad in the coming period. Institutional quarantine of 7 to 10 days will be followed as per the procedures after coordination with the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Interior, concerned embassies and health authorities in the country.
Return of the stranded domestic workers aims to reduce the burden on Kuwaiti families, which cost large sums of money to return these workers via non banned countries. The sources expected that mechanisms and steps to open the skies for domestic workers from the banned countries directly to Kuwait will be announced next week.
