*"మహారాజా ! కార్తీకమాసమున కార్తీక సోమవారమున కార్తీక ద్వాదశీవ్రతమును గురించి , సాలగ్రామపు మహిమలను గురించి వివరించెదను విను"* మని వశిష్ట మహాముని ఈవిధముగా తెలియచేసిరి. కార్తీక సోమవారమునాడు ఉదయముననే లేచి కాలకృత్యములు తీర్చుకొని నదికి వెళ్లి స్నానముచేసి ఆచమనము చేయవలయును. తరువాత శక్తి కొలది బ్రహ్మణునకు దానమిచ్చి ఆ రోజంతయు ఉపవాసముండి , సాయంకాలము శివాలయమునకు గాని , విష్ణ్వాలయమునకు గాని వెళ్లి దేవుని పూజించి , నక్షత్ర దర్శనము చేసికొని పిమ్మట భుజింపవలయును.
ఈవిధముగా చేసిన వారికి సకల సంపదలు కలుగుటయే గాక , మోక్షము కూడా పొందుదురు. కార్తీక మాసములో శని త్రయోదశి వచ్చిన యెడల నా వత్రమాచరించినచో నూరు రేట్లు ఫలితము కలుగును. కార్తీక శుద్ధ ఏకాదశిరోజున , పూర్ణోపవాసముండి ఆ రాత్రి విష్ణ్వాలయమునకు వెళ్లి శ్రీహరిని మనసారా ధ్యానించి , శ్రీహరి సన్నిధిన పురాణ కాలక్షేపము చేసి మరునాడు బ్రాహ్మణ స…

* విష్ణ్యర్చనానంతరం పురాణ పఠనం చేసినా , చేయించినా , వినినా , వినిపించినా అటువంటి వారూ తప్పని సరిగా వైకుంఠాన్నేపొందుతారు. దీనిని గురించి మరొక ఇతిహాసము చెప్పెదను. శ్రద్దగా ఆలకింపుము. అని వశిష్టుల వారు ఈ విధముగా చెప్ప దొడంగిరి. పూర్వము కళింగ దేశమునకు మంధరుడను విప్రుడు గలడు.
