Brief History :
When the Department of Works was established in 1945, only a few employees worked in three offices with an area of no more than fifty square meters. The tasks assigned to the Department of Works at that time were limited.
It limited itself to establishing some buildings necessary for public services and departments, such as the Shura Council and some customs and passport buildings, the Health and Interior Department and the old Emiri Hospital, and one of its first tasks was to conduct an air survey of the State of Kuwait and map the city with the designation of public services areas. By developing civil life and its requirements, the devices and facilities of the Ministry of Public Works in all its apparatuses evolved, and at a time when the responsibilities and competencies of the Ministry of Public Works were numerous, in 1952, the task of overseeing agricultural activity was entrusted to the Public Works Department because of the recent renaissance required in increasing the green area represented by productive and aesthetic agriculture In addition to the urban aspect.
While some of the specialties were transferred to other government agencies, where in 1960 the water and gas department of the Ministry was transferred to the Electricity and Water Department, and in 1961 the Sections of the Survey and Organization and the Fire Department were transferred to the Municipal Department. In 1962 the Public Works Department turned to the Ministry of Public Works to determine its responsibilities and specializations.
