Kuwait to launch 10 mobile vaccination units, iiQ8
So far 300,000 people have pre-registered to take the vaccine
The Ministry of Health, Kuwait announced that it will deploy 10 mobile units to vaccinate people that are unable to leave their homes due to severe health conditions, local media reported. The mobile vaccination units will be targeted to those that are bedridden, people with special needs and anybody that has a severe illness that prevents them from traveling to the vaccination centers.
There will be two mobile units for each of Kuwait’s five health districts.
Vaccine centers:-
As Kuwait received the first batch of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine last week, the Ministry of Health approved 15 medical centers across Kuwait to begin administering the vaccine.
The Ministry of Health’s spokesman, Dr Abdulla Al Sanad, said in a press statement on Saturday that the health centers will begin administering the vaccine on Sunday.
On Sunday, the head of the Ahmadi health center, said on Kuwait National TV that the medical center has begun its vaccination process and is prepared to vaccinate 500 people a day.
In each of Kuwait’s five regions, three health centers have been allocated as vaccination centers. The Mishref Fairground will continue its operation as a vaccination headquarter, especially when administering the Pfizer-BioNtech vaccine as the vaccines are stored in freezers on site.
Progress of vaccination:-
Kuwait began its vaccination campaign on December 24, after it received the first shipment of the Pfizer vaccine.
Those that are being given priority in the first batch of the vaccine are: frontline workers, medical professionals, people suffering from chronic illnesses and those above the age of 65.
Then once the 200,000 doses of Oxford vaccine arrived in Kuwait on Monday, Kuwait ramped up its vacation process and started vaccinating those between the ages of 40 to 60.
The Ministry of Health created a website that allows those wanting to take the vaccine to pre-register. As of Sunday, around 300,000 people have registered to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
