Kuwait New Traffic Law Updates
Kuwait New Traffic Law in Major Revisions to Enhance Road Safety and Deter Reckless Driving..
The Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic and Operations at the Ministry of Interior, Major General Youssef Al-Khadha, confirmed the necessity of the new traffic law to deter reckless driving and reduce severe violations. He noted that traffic accidents are the second leading cause of fatalities in #Kuwait, following heart diseases.
The new law, reviewed by relevant authorities, has been submitted to the Cabinet for approval and will then be presented to His Highness the Amir. The current traffic law, effective since 1976, contains outdated fines that are no longer effective deterrents.
Key changes in the new law include:
- A minimum fine for "parking in prohibited areas" set at KD15.
- The penalty for using a phone while driving increases from KD5 to KD75.
- The penalty for not wearing a seatbelt rises from KD10 to KD30.
