Kuwait City, 15th February 2021: 4 Days holiday for Kuwait National & Liberation day, iiQ8

Kuwait’s National and Liberation Days are two of the most significant holidays in the country, celebrated annually on February 25th and 26th, respectively. In 2025, these two important occasions will be celebrated with a special 4-day holiday from February 25th to 28th.

Kuwait National Day (February 25th):

National Day marks the anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah’s ascension to the throne in 1950. It celebrates Kuwait’s independence from British protection, which was officially recognized in 1961. The day is filled with patriotic fervor, with many Kuwaitis participating in public celebrations, including parades, fireworks, and cultural events. The iconic national flag is proudly displayed across the city, and there are special broadcasts on TV and radio to commemorate the occasion.

Kuwait Liberation Day (February 26th):

Liberation Day honors the day in 1991 when Kuwait was freed from Iraqi occupation during the Gulf War. This day is a symbol of Kuwait’s resilience and independence. The events often include military displays, concerts, and a moment of remembrance for the lives lost during the conflict. It’s a day of pride, where Kuwaitis reflect on the sacrifices made to secure the country’s sovereignty.

4-Day Holiday in 2025:

In 2025, the 4-day holiday from February 25th to 28th will provide an extended time for families to gather, relax, and participate in the festivities. The long weekend allows people to take part in various events, enjoy special promotions in malls, and participate in national celebrations. Many businesses and government offices will be closed, allowing citizens to enjoy the full spirit of the holidays.

Festivities and Traditions:

  • Fireworks: Both National Day and Liberation Day are marked by impressive fireworks displays that light up the skies over Kuwait City.
  • Parades and Performances: Street parades featuring music, dance, and military displays take place across the country, with schools and public institutions participating in showcasing Kuwait’s rich culture and history.
  • Concerts: Local musicians and performers often hold concerts to celebrate Kuwaiti heritage and the nation’s achievements.
  • National Pride: People decorate their homes, cars, and businesses with Kuwaiti flags and emblems to express national pride. It’s common to see everyone in traditional dress or wearing the national colors of green, white, red, and black.

This extended holiday will offer both residents and visitors the chance to experience Kuwait’s pride, unity, and joy during one of the most important periods in the country’s history. Whether enjoying time with family, attending public celebrations, or reflecting on Kuwait’s past, the 4-day holiday promises to be a memorable occasion for all.
