Kuwait Government briefs lawmakers on upcoming coronavirus plans

KUWAIT, May 27 :

The parliament was briefed on the government’s plans for the gradual return to everyday life in Kuwait post-coronavirus in implementation of the constitution, Speaker Marzouq Al-Ghanim said on Wednesday.

The plan is split into five assessment of risk indicators, the fifth being the most dangerous and the first being the least, Al-Ghanim told reporters after the meeting.

According to the government’s evaluation, the country has passed the fifth stage, he said, and based on that decision, recently decided to loosen the curfew from full to partial next week. Attending the talks at the National Assembly was His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah alongside six ministers and the lawmakers, who presented their own suggestions on the matter.

The cabinet intends to continue discussing the plans along with an analysis by health authorities on the current situation in detail at another meeting on Thursday.

Furthermore, he expressed hope lawmakers could resume sessions immediately after the full curfew is lifted to gradually look into necessary legislation.

The number of National Assembly sessions will not be less than those scheduled, he said, adding that the duration of these sessions will increase in order to make up for lost time.

He also expressed sincere gratitude and appreciation for the efforts of those on the frontline, praying for an end to this pandemic and that people be spared from its impacts.

The attending ministers were Deputy Prime Minister, Interior Minister and State Minister for Cabinet Affairs Anas Al-Saleh, Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al-Mohammad AlSabah, Minister of Commerce and Industry Khaled Al-Roudhan, Information Minister, State Minister for Youth Affairs Mohammad Al-Jabri, Health Minister Sheikh Dr. Basil Al-Humoud Al-Sabah and State Minister for Services and State Minister for National Assembly Affairs Mubarak Al-Harees.

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Al-Saleh said that the full curfew would be eased to partial after May 30 – the complete details of which will be outlined on Thursday.
