Oman received the first batch of vaccine from Pfizer towards end December last year

Muscat: A consignment of 100,000 doses of Oxford Astrazeneca vaccine manufactured by Serum Institute of India reached Oman by Air India on January 30. The vaccine doses that arrived as gift from India were handed over to Oman’s Minister of Health, through the Embassy of India in Oman. Ambassador Munu Manawar hailed this development as another important milestone in Oman-India relationship in his tweet, which he shared immediately after the hand-over of vaccine to Oman’s Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Saeedi.

The Minister thanked and appreciated the efforts of Indian Government on behalf of Sultan Haitham Bin Tariq and said that the Indian Institute of Serums and Vaccines is one of the largest vaccine factories in the world. He confirmed that the step to obtain the vaccine reinforces the global efforts aimed at overcoming the current pandemic and also helps ensure the availability of the vaccines on an equal basis to everyone in the world.

The Indian embassy also stated that the gesture symbolises and reflects a deep friendship, spanning millennia.

Oman received the first batch of vaccine from Pfizer towards end December last year and the vaccination programme started in January, targeting the vulnerable group of immune-compromised and health workers in the first phase. The vaccination programme is currently going on with the second dose administration to the target groups.
