Kuwait Government removing expats to balance demographic imbalance Kuwait City 5th June, 2020 : Kuwait’s prime minister His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah has said the country’s expatriate population should be more than halved to 30% of the total, as the coronavirus pandemic and a slump in oil prices send shudders through gulf economies. The State of Kuwait is facing a “big challenge” to address the discrepancy in the structure of the population, His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said Wednesday. Kuwait has a population of some 4.8 million people, of the 1.45 million Kuwaitis and around 3.34 million non-Kuwaitis, or 30 to 70 percent ratio, he said. Kuwait City 4th June, 2020: Kuwait new Law Increases daily fine for residency violation to 20 KD? In the past few weeks, the regulations in the expatriate residency law have undergone a fundamental review, covering most of its articles, with the aim of putting an end to the phenomenon of visa trading and permanently closing that chapter. According to informed sources, the relevant report will be presented first to the Cabinet for deliberation and approval and then referred to the National Assembly as a matter of urgency. A team was formed for this purpose by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh with representatives of the Fatwa and Legislation Department, Legal Affairs Department of Ministry of Interior, Civil Service Commission, Kuwaiti legalists from Kuwait University and delegates from health insurance companies. Expats Standard Abroad Grace Period Of 1 Yr Instead Of 6 Months, 3 Months Extension For All Expiring Visas Expatriates with valid residency visas, who are stranded outside Kuwait due to halt to all flights to and from Kuwait airport have been granted a reprieve with the validity of their residency visas being extended to 12 months instead of 6 months, reported Al Rai daily. Aside from extending 3 months for all types of visit visas, also applicable are domestic workers and those who entered the country on a work visa and were unable to complete residency procedures. This comes under the difficult conditions faced due to coronavirus crisis.
