Kuwait shuts down all shopping malls with exception of food stores

Shops, malls, and barbershops will be closed due to coronavirus, Tareq Al-Mezrem, government spokesman said Saturday.

In a press conference, accompanied by Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad Nasser Mohammad AlSabah, and Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education Dr. Saud Al-Harbi, Al-Mezremadded acrades and entertainment centers for children will also be closed.

The spokesman said cooperative societies and ration centers will remain open.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh, during the extraordinary cabinet meeting at Seif Palace said that part of these efforts were suspension of public transportatioun, closure of acrades and children’s entertainment centers, closure of shopping malls with exception of food stores, and closure of barber shops and women’s salons.

Al-Saleh said restaurants and coffee shops should not receive more than five customers at once, while people should leave at least one-meter distance among other persons when standing in queues.

For his turn, Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Ahmad called on all Kuwaiti citizens abroad to contact embassies or the foreign ministry contact information.

Minister Al-Harbi asserted all students abroad should stay indoors, and all scholarships won’t be affected, adding that they have received 8,918 calls from Kuwaiti students abroad.
