Kuwait Family VISA Updates
Kuwait City, 1st September 2023:
Family Visa Updates : The approval of family visas brings optimism to the possibility of Kuwait opening its doors to expatriates.
The Al-Seyassah daily has reported that the Ministry of Interior has granted permission for expatriate medical staff working under the Health Ministry to apply for family visas for their wives and children under certain conditions. This development is seen as a glimmer of hope towards gradually reopening the country to expatriates.
Sources indicate that First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Sheikh Talal Al-Khaled has given his approval to Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadi’s request, allowing immediate family members of the expatriate medical staff to enter the country. However, there are specific criteria, which include male children being under 15 years old and female children being under 18 years old.
Sources have clarified that measures are being taken to ensure the stability of the medical workforce and prevent the departure of skilled professionals needed in various fields. Rumors circulating on social media about the opening of family visas have been debunked, with sources stating that the Ministry of Interior has not issued any instructions regarding visa issuance or its resumption.
These rumors are baseless. The Ministry is currently studying a new approach for issuing entry visas in accordance with regulations and laws governing the recruitment process. It aims to strike a balance between demographics and the need for expatriates to be reunited with their families. The goal is to implement a mechanism that considers both the population dynamics and the human aspect of the visa system.
It has been highlighted that the Ministry of Interior’s Legal Department is currently reviewing various new regulations, including an increase in the salary requirement for expatriates to qualify for a family visa.
The proposal suggests raising the salary cap from KD500 to KD800 for both individuals employed in the public and private sectors.
According to the sources, individuals seeking a family visa will be required to present their original work permits. It is important to note that the residence affairs departments will not accept any documentation indicating that the expatriate is receiving additional income from any source other than their original employer.
This new approach is seen as a measure by the Ministry of Interior to manage demographics and enable higher-income population segments to bring their families to the country, on the condition that they can adequately provide for them without putting their spouses into an already crowded labor market.

According to reliable sources, the Ministry of Interior’s directive to halt the issuance of all visa types, except for drivers, is still in effect. It has been emphasized that security authorities are actively apprehending individuals who are found to be in violation of the Residency Law.
The scope of the aforementioned decision includes individuals holding Article 22 visas, specifically family members such as wives and children below the age of 15 who have recently entered the country, as well as the parents of foreign workers and the mother of the worker’s wife.
