Manila: The Department of Health (DOH) reported on 21,819 new COVID cases on Friday (January 7), the highest single-day increase in the Asian country. The highest-ever tally was recorded on September 16, 2021, at 21,181 cases. The uncertainty amid rising COVID cases sent Philippine stocks index tumbling on Friday even as the peso weakened.
