Passenger-per-flight level set to rise as airport operation capacity boosted
Kuwait’s civil aviation authorities have reportedly approved operating direct flights to London starting later this month, as the country is planning to increase the traveller capacity of its airport amid eased restrictions against COVID-19. On Thursday, Kuwait ended a health nighttime curfew that had been in force since March.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued approvals to the Kuwait Airways and Jazeera Airways to start flying to London with three flights a week starting May 22, a DGCA official source said.
The source expected that British Airways will request approval for operating direct flights with Kuwait in the coming period as the summer travel season sets in.
“Kuwait has no objection to direct British Airways flights to and from Kuwait,” the source told…

Security checkpoints removed from streets as 66-day curfew ends
Kuwait is likely to achieve herd immunity against #COVID-19 by next September when the total number of those receiving the jabs will hit 3 million people, according to well-informed sources.
“Reaching this rate will put the country at the threshold of obtaining community immunity, thus paving the way for return to normal life with 65 to 70 per cent vaccinated before the new school year starts in September,” a source said, according to Kuwaiti newspaper Al Rai.
Kuwait expects the number of those vaccinated to reach 2 million in the next few weeks.

Director of the Air Transport Department at the General Directorate of Civil Aviation Abdullah Al-Rajhi announced the issuance of a decision to increase the operating capacity of arrival flights from 1,000 to 5,000 passengers per day starting from May 22, reports Al-Qabas daily.
In an exclusive statement to the daily, Al- Rajhi disclosed the Supreme Committee for Corona Emergencies took this step for the airlines operating at Kuwait International Airport to increase their commercial operations during the summer season; affirming that the daily arrivals rate will increase to 80 percent compared to the previous decision on limiting the number of arriving passengers to 1,000 per day.

Mass vaccination drive underway to vaccinate workers in food and beverage sector
Kuwait City: Although on Monday Kuwait’s Cabinet of Ministers announced that restaurants and cafes will remain closed for indoor dining until further notice, it is likely that they will open their doors again after the five-day Eid Al Fitr holiday, local media reported.
While indoor dining remains banned, the partial curfew is set to be lifted and cinemas are to open - only for those who are vaccinated - on the first day of Eid.
Although indoor dining is closed, takeaway, delivery and drive-thru services at restaurants and cafes are permitted.

Kuwait will be lifting the partial curfew starting on the first day of Eid from 1 am, the Cabinet decided today. .Open cinemas for vaccinated people only. .Restaurants/cafes remain to provide takeaway & delivery services. .Close all commercial activities from 8 pm until 5 am with the exception of restaurants, cafes, maintenance services, pharmacies, food marketing outlets, parallel markets, medical & supplies. .Direct commercial flights with Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan SriLanka are suspended until further notice. .Ban entry for foreigners from Nepal, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka direct or thru another country unless they have stayed outside these countries for at least 14 days. It Government spokesman Tariq Al-Mezrim on Monday - 10th May 2021 - declared the approval of performing the Eid al-Fitr prayer provided that it will no exceed 15 minutes.
Speaking at a videoconference following the - Cabinet meeting, Al-Mezrim said that a number of outdoor prayer places and more than 1,500 mosques would be prepared for the Eid prayer with abiding by health measures.
