Rani Mukerji is set to return to the big screen with Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, one of the most eagerly-awaited movies of the year. The film’s trailer was released earlier today, February 23. It features the seasoned actress in a powerful new avatar.
The film is, interestingly, based on the struggles of a real-life Indian couple. Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway is a drama, directed by Ashima Chibber.
MRS CHATTERJEE VS NORWAY IS BASED ON A REAL STORY
Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway, starring Rani Mukerji, is based on the challenges faced by Anurup Bhattacharya and his wife Sagarika in May 2011 when the Norwegian authorities took away their toddlers three-year-old Avigyan and one-year-old daughter Aishwarya.
The authorities objected to the fact that she fed them by hand, which they felt was force-feeding. The two were also accused of providing their kids ‘unsuitable’ clothes and failing to give them enough room to play.
Norway’s Child Protective Service also objected to their son sleeping in the same bed as the father. The authorities eventually gave their custody to their father’s brother after a diplomatic row between Norway and India. This allowed them to bring the children back to India. Sagarika’s worries, however, were not over as she was not on good terms with her husband by then. She eventually got their custody after a legal fight.

MRS CHATTERJEE VS NORWAY IS A ‘RESPONSIBILITY’ FOR THE MAKERS
While speaking about Mrs Chatterjee vs Noway, producer Nikkhil Advani said that it is a major responsibility to bring Rani back on the big screen in a new avatar.
“It is a matter of pride and responsibility with which we have made our film and are delighted to bring the inimitable Rani Mukerji to our audiences,” he said in a prepared statement.
Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway will be released in theatres on March 17.
