USING THE WINDOWS 10 PHONE COMPANION
The new Phone Companion in Windows 10 makes it easier to move files between your computer and your portable devices. In keeping with Microsoftβs plan to service all computing platforms, the Phone Companion program works with phones from Windows, Android, and Apple. It even works with an iPad.

Click the Start button, choose All Apps, and choose Phone Companion.The program appears, shown in the figure below.

Click on your type of phone or device, and then connect your device to your computer.Connect the cable from your computerβs USB port to your phone or iPadβs connector. The Phone Companion lists your phoneβs available storage space and available apps, shown in the figure below.

Choose which apps to install, and whether to transfer photos or files.The Phone Companion leaves you with three options.

Install Apps:Β The Phone Companion lists the Windows apps available your phone. Install the OneDrive app, for example, to give your phone access to your OneDrive files. You can also install Cortana, Music, OneNote, Skype, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook β the same apps that work on your PC. By installing the apps, you can edit your OneDrive files with Word, both on your phone and your PC.

Import Photos and Videos:Β Choose this option to copy your photos and videos from your phone or tablet to your PC.

Transfer Other Files:Β This option brings up File Explorer, where you can view the files and folders on your tablet. Then you can transfer items from your phone or tablet to your PC or vice versa.

Phone Companion (also known as Your Phone or Link to Windows) is a Microsoft app that allows you to connect your Android or iPhone to your Windows 10 PC, enabling seamless access to photos, messages, notifications, and more directly from your desktop.
This is especially useful for students, professionals, and remote workers who want to stay productive without constantly switching between their PC and mobile device.

β Step 1: On Your Windows 10 PC
- Click Start Menu
- Search for Phone Link or Your Phone (formerly Phone Companion)
- Open the app and click Get Started
- Sign in with your Microsoft account
β Step 2: On Your Mobile Phone
For Android:
- Go to the Google Play Store
- Install “Link to Windows” (by Microsoft)
- Sign in with the same Microsoft account
- Grant permissions (contacts, SMS, media)
For iPhone:
iOS has limited support.
- Install “Link to Windows” (App Store)
- Sign in and follow instructions (limited to photos, notifications)
β Step 3: Pair Devices
- On your PC, a QR code will appear.
- On your mobile device, scan the QR code using the Link to Windows app.
- Grant final permissions and confirm the connection.
