Criticism forces closure of sites after brief reopening

Sharp criticism of a government decision to reopen amusement and game halls for children in Kuwait has resulted in revoking the decision hours after the facilities reopened, local media reported Friday.

Children’s amusement places in shopping centres reopened Thursday, a move that drew scathing public criticism due to the continued closure of other institutions to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.

The game halls received some children during the brief reopening amid a critical campaign, Al Rai newspaper reported.

Critics expressed astonishment at the reopening of the children’s game facilities while schools and kindergarten are still closed.

Some critics argued that it would have been more advisable and beneficial to reopen kindergartens where health precautions can be strictly applied for the physical and psychological well-being of children.

The campaign prompted the competent government agencies to revoke the controversial decision.

Kuwait so far has registered a total of 163,450 virus cases and 958 related fatalities.
