Partial curfew likely to continue after Ramadan, iiQ8
Country witnessing rise in cases, ICU occupancy and COVID-19 related deaths
The head of the COVID-19 Supreme Advisory Committee, Dr. Khaled Al Jarallah, indicated that the partial curfew is likely to continue until the end of Ramadan, local media reported.
Al Jarallah pointed out that failure to adhere to health measures across Kuwait has led to an increase in COVID-19 cases throughout the country.
Despite the implementation of the curfew a few weeks ago, Kuwait is still witnessing a rise in cases, ICU occupancy and COVID-19 related deaths.
The partial curfew, which was implemented back in March 7, is from 6:00pm to 5:00am after the government pushed the curfew hour by one-hour last week.
Preparation for Ramadan
The Cabinet of Ministers are set to discuss whether a curfew will be implemented during the holy month of Ramadan during their weekly meeting on Monday. Health authorities will be submitting a report that illustrates the failure to implement health requirements, especially in banning gathering during curfew hours.
According to local media the government will likely monitor the health situation weekly during Ramadan to assess whether a full lockdown is necessary, if the number of cases and COVID-19 related deaths are to increase.
As for Tarawih prayers, health authorities will allow for them to go ahead as scheduled but will reduce the timing of the prayer to avoid transmission.
