Kuwait extends partial curfew until end of Ramadan
Taraweh limited to 15 minutes; restaurants can only provide delivery, take-away services
Kuwait City: On Monday, the Kuwaiti Cabinet of Ministers announced that the partial curfew will extend until the end of Ramadan. The government had stated earlier this month that the partial curfew, which begins at 7pm and ends at 5am, will last between April 7 and April 22.
The 10-hour curfew was imposed to curb the spread of COVID-19 as Kuwait is seeing a second wave since February. A 12-hour partial curfew was put in place on March 7 and then the hours were reduced after a few weeks.
Restrictions
While the curfew begins at 7pm, the government has given people three hours, from 7pm to 10pm, to walk in their neighbourhoods as a form of post Iftar exercise.
Another exemption is in regards to supermarkets, which are open until 12am. Those looking to go shopping during the curfew hours can obtain an online permit from the Ministry of Interior.
As for restrictions on mosques, taraweeh prayers (conducted after the isha prayers) have been limited to 15 minutes. In addition, iftar charity meals have been banned at mosques this year to limit gatherings.
Indoor dining at restaurants and cafes will continue to be banned (it was first stopped on February 22) with only delivery and take-away services available. Commercial businesses are open throughout the day, but are required to close before curfew hours. Each business closes based on their own choice, with some closing earlier and others right before the curfew.
