Kerala's fourth international airport at Kannur is slated to open on December 9 following an approval by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a top official said here on Friday.

Kannur International Airport Ltd (KIAL) Managing Director, V. Thulasidas confirmed the launched date, saying that "we are ready for operations".

KIAL authorities are trying their best to see that commercial operations commence soon after the inauguration, but the Airport Authority of India will be deciding on that.

Already 11 international carriers and six domestic operators have confirmed their decision to fly into KIAL.

The first trial operations were undertaken successfully at the aiport on September 20 and a repeat rehearsal the following day.

The Assistant Undersecretary for Nationality and Passports at the Ministry of Interior, Major-General Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawaf has issued a circular according to which the visit visa for wife and children will be valid for three months instead of one in Kuwait.

The new instructions were issued on 13th September and came into force on Sept 16. The decision was issued taking into consideration the humanitarian factor and allow wife and children to spend more time with husband/father which will also have a positive impact on the local market.

Local reports said that any expatriate who had applied for a visit visa and was granted one month can submit a new application and get the new visit visa for three months. There is no change in duration of the rest of the visit visas.

The Embassy of India, Kuwait will be closed on Thursday, 20th September, 2018 on account of Muharram 2018. Earlier it was announced that the holiday will be on Friday. However the embassy informed that Thursday will be the holiday.

All types of visit visas are valid for only one month instead of three months.

However the Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs Major General Sheikh Faisal Al-Nawaf yesterday issued another directives to the directors of all departments of Residency Affairs for the renewal of visit visas for expatriates who enter the country on various types of visit visas, for a maximum of two weeks under any humanitarian and medical reasons. They have to pay the relevant fees for the renewal.

Major General Sheikh Faisal told about strict instructions from the Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior ret. Lieutenant General Khalid Al-Jarrah and the Undersecretary of Ministry of Interior Lieutenant General Essam Al-Naham to apply the law on everyone without exception and to iron out the obstacles facing visitors to all Residency Affairs departments.
