“Know India Program – 2023”

Know India Program (KIP) is an engagement program for Diaspora youth (between the age of 18-30 years) of Indian origin to introduce them to India and promote awareness about different facets of Indian life, our cultural heritage, art and various aspects of contemporary India. This program is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians).

2. All the members from Indian Diaspora of Indian Origin (excluding NRIs) may register themselves for 63rd & 64th KIP at https://kip.gov.in/home. It may please be noted that these KIP participants (63rd & 64th) will have additional advantage of being part of PBD celebration in Indore as both the groups are scheduled to take part in PBD from 8-10 January 2023.

3. MAIN ELEMENTS OF KIP
a) Understanding of India’s political system, economy, society, and developments in various sectors etc.
b) Visit to places of historical, cultural, religious importance.
c) Familiarization with art, music and culture of India.
d) Visit to industrial sites.
e) Visit to a village.
f) Interaction with non-profit organizations.
g) Meetings with senior leadership/officials in India.
h) Visit to a select state in India for 08 days.

 

4. ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA.
a) Only persons of Indian Origin are eligible for the said program.
b) Non Resident Indians are not eligible for KIPs.
c) Age: The program is open to youth of Indian origin (excluding non-resident Indians) in the age group of 18-30 years, as on the first day of the month in which the program is expected to begin. It is open to PIO youth from all over the world. Applicant must provide his/her previous PIO card number or that of his parents or grandparents. In the absence of any documentary proof of Indian Origin, the applicant must submit a written undertaking about his Indian Origin which must be attested by DCM/DCG or HOM/HOP of the Mission/Consulate.
d) Previous participation: The applicant should not have participated in any previous KIP or Internship Program for Diaspora Youth (IPDY) Study India Program of MEA or any other program organized and paid for by the Ministry of External Affairs and any other Ministry/Department in Government of India or a State Government in India.
e) Educational Qualification: Minimum qualification required for participating in KIP is graduation from a recognized University /Institute or enrolled for graduation.
f) Language: The applicants should be able to speak in English, should have studied English as a subject at the High School level or have English as the medium of instruction for undergraduate course.
Note:- Those who have not visited India before will be given preference.

5. ARRANGEMENTS
a) The Ministry of External Affairs will take care of participants only for the duration of the program. If participants wish to arrive in India early or stay extra, they will have to make their own arrangements.
b) The participants are provided local hospitality e.g. boarding/lodging in budget hotels and internal transportation in India.
c) Applicants will get arrangements for return air tickets, from Indian Missions under their country of accreditation; before their leaving for India, after paying 10% of total air fare.
d) Gratis visa shall be granted to selected participants by the Indian Missions/Posts abroad.

6. DURATION
The duration of the program is 21 days (excluding international travel) with 08 days in one or two partner State(s).

7. INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL AND TRAVEL INSURANCE.
All KIP participants are advised to obtain an international travel and medical insurance policy for their visit to India.

Know India Programme of the Ministry of External Affairs is a three-week orientation programme for diaspora youth conducted with a view to promote awareness on different facets of life in India and the progress made by the country in various fields e.g. economic, industrial, education, science & technology, communication & information Technology, culture. KIP provide a unique forum for students & young professionals of Indian origin to visit India, share their views, expectations & experiences and to develop closer bonds with the contemporary India.

Pravasi Teerth Darshan Yojna (PTDY) is a important initiatives of Government of India providing the elder generation in Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs) in the age group of 45-65 year an opportunity to reconnect with their root.  The Programme is available for those PIOs residing  in Girmitiya countries (Mauritius, Fiji, Suriname, Guyana, T&T, Jamaica, South Africa)
