Early Life and Family Background

Priya Prakash Varrier was born on 28 October 1999 in Punkunnam, Thrissur, Kerala, India. She grew up in Kerala and developed an interest in entertainment, fashion, and performing arts at a young age.

Her parents are reported to be Prakash Varrier and Preetha Varrier. Although Priya became a familiar face on social media, she has generally kept much of her family life away from the public spotlight.

Before entering films, Priya participated in fashion-related activities and modelling events. These experiences helped her become comfortable in front of cameras and develop an interest in pursuing opportunities in the entertainment industry.

Her early life was relatively different from the glamorous public image associated with her later fame. She was studying in college when a brief clip from a Malayalam film song unexpectedly transformed her into a nationally recognised personality.

Education and College Life

Priya completed her schooling at Sandeepani Vidya Nikethan in Thrissur, Kerala. She later pursued a Bachelor of Commerce programme at Vimala College in Thrissur.

Her college years coincided with the beginning of her rise to fame. In 2018, the viral success of a song sequence from Oru Adaar Love brought her widespread attention across India.

The sudden increase in popularity introduced new professional opportunities, including modelling assignments, media appearances, brand promotions, and film offers. Balancing education with the demands of public attention and acting opportunities became an important part of her early career.

Her educational background also distinguishes her from the image of a celebrity whose career began exclusively through established film-industry connections. Priya’s initial recognition came from a short performance that connected with online audiences.

How Priya Prakash Varrier Became Famous

Priya’s rise to fame began in early 2018, when a short clip from the song “Manikya Malaraya Poovi” from the Malayalam film Oru Adaar Love circulated widely online.

The clip featured Priya exchanging expressive looks with her co-star, followed by a memorable wink. The scene quickly became popular on social media, inspiring memes, reaction videos, fan edits, and countless discussions.

Her expressive performance attracted attention not only in Kerala but also throughout India and among international audiences who followed Indian entertainment.

Priya gained a substantial social media following in a remarkably short period. News outlets began reporting on her sudden popularity, and she became widely recognised by the nickname “Wink Girl.”

The popularity of the clip demonstrated the growing influence of digital platforms on celebrity culture. A short video could introduce an emerging performer to millions of people before the release of her first major film.

However, viral popularity also created expectations. Many people initially knew Priya primarily for the wink, making it important for her to demonstrate her acting abilities through subsequent films and roles.

Acting Debut with Oru Adaar Love

Priya Prakash Varrier made her feature-film debut with the Malayalam romantic drama Oru Adaar Love, directed by Omar Lulu and released in 2019.

The film explored teenage relationships, friendships, and romantic experiences in a school setting. Priya played a character named Priya, appearing alongside Roshan Abdul Rahoof, Noorin Shereef, and other young performers.

Although the film had attracted enormous attention because of its viral song sequence, Priya’s performance was also an important first step in her professional acting career.

The popularity surrounding the film helped introduce her to audiences beyond Malayalam cinema. Its song and promotional clips had already established a strong online presence, making the film one of the most closely watched releases associated with a newcomer at the time.

For Priya, Oru Adaar Love became both an opportunity and a challenge. It opened doors to new projects, but it also created the task of establishing an identity that extended beyond one famous scene.
